An American Trilogy
AN AMERICAN TRILOGY
RELEASE FALL 2018
Documentary short (English) 2017
Directed, written and produced by Cyril Morin
“American Trilogy” by Cyril Morin refers to a film project / compilation of three feature films created by the French filmmaker, composer, writer, and director Cyril Morin. It isn’t a single traditional documentary in the usual sense, but rather a thematic anthology of three independent narrative films that Morin compiled together under the title An American Trilogy to explore modern American social tragedies and cultural moments.

The trilogy brings together three independent movies that Morin wrote and directed — each stands on its own but shares an underlying focus on "American tragedies" and social issues:

The Activist, A political thriller set against the backdrop of the Wounded Knee occupation in 1973, focusing on Native American activists and tensions with authorities.

Hacker’s Game, A techno-thriller and somewhat romantic drama about hackers, cyber security, and the intersection of digital life with real-world challenges.

NY84, A story of three young artists in early‑1980s New York, chronicling their lives as the AIDS epidemic begins to ravage their community.

Morin assembled these films not because they are directly narratively connected. They each depict deep social realities and turning points in recent U.S. history. The project reflects on identity, crisis, and transformation from different angles — Indigenous rights, public health, and technological/social upheaval. Morin has described the trilogy as both American in setting and universal in theme, addressing issues with worldwide resonance.
